looking south
Looking South...raking out the trench outline for the edge of the geotec material
6/14/2014 Starting early... Harry waving his left hand and magically unrolling the geotec!
First roll down...don't worry, the sun will stretch out the wrinkles...
Look closely...we used staples for the outside edges, but in some spots where we encountered rocks, gas lines, concrete bunkers, etc., we had to use nails...those will hold it down!
Harry is "THE" expert at applying the roofing cement that we used as a seam glue...at least it "seemed" that way at the time...
Look closely...those nail seams would make any singer sewing machine proud!
Looking North from the South end. We have two-thirds finished...all we need is to tackle the last third tomorrow morning!
The morning after...the sun stretched ALL the wrinkles out...the runway looked as smooth as glass. We were all very pleasantly surprised at how much it pulled tight.
A finished runway... The sun will stretch out the wrinkles in the newly laid geotec here on the south side. Once it is all pulled tight, we will check all the outside anchors and fill in the dirt. We also plan on laying down some taxi-ways and pit area geotec.
A very happy install crew... Notice how smooth the geotec is at our feet...we now have a runway we can all be proud of and look forward to many smooth flights! A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who helped make this possible! Come on out and check out the new runway and give'er a spin!
